Minamoto no Yoritomo depicted here as Seitai Shogun in a splendid robe decorated with 'kiri' patterns, together with an escort, is giving two cranes their freedom. Attached to their legs are notes demanding to release them again if found or caught and to report to the Emperor. Legend has it that even centuries after Yoritomo's death cranes were still being seen carrying these notes.
