Kawano Kaoru was born in Otaru, Hokkaido, and studied at Kawabata Art School. Exhibited with Nihon Hanga Kyokai in 1944, but soon was taken prisoner of war in Siberia. He resumed exhibiting with Nihon Hanga Kyokai in 1949 and was a member from 1954 on. In 1958 moved to Tokyo. Participated in international exhibitions in Tokyo, New York, Seattle, Chicago and elsewhere. His works include many highly textured abstract representations of children.
