A few designs from this album were first published as individual surimono, before they were published as an album. This is the reson for the extremely fine printing quality of the album. It was published by Tokyo's foremost publisher of the time, Tsuta-ya Juzaburo, publisher of woodblock printed works by such great masters of the 'Golden Age of ukiyo-e' as Sharaku, Utamaro, Kiyonaga, Toyokuni and many others.
SORI was an early pupil of Hokusai, who gave him his own name Sori in 1798. His surimono are often confused with Hokusai's.
