This naga-oban print belongs to a small body of works by the artist executed in this large size. Such prints have
become quite rare these days. The carvers and printers have done an incredible job when transferring Koson's design to the
print medium. The meticulous gradations in the bird's plumage add a three-dimensional feeling to the design, accentuated
by the soft lines of rain in the background. Reference: Crows, Cranes and Camellias - the natural world of Ohara Koson, Hotei Publishing, Leiden, 2001; check list: K 13.1. |
