The triptych depicts the nightly scene of the Great Battle between the Taira and the Minamoto clans at Dan-no-Ura: MINAMOTO-NO-YOSHITSUNE is saved by his soldiers from being attacked by TAIRA-NO-NORITSUNE, who had sneeked onto Minamoto's ship.

Kunitsuna, ukiyo-e painter and print artist, was a pupil of Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769-1825).
