| The Japanese title is: Nara Kofuku-ji tou yoshun yugure ('The Tower
of Kofuku Temple in Nara in the Twilight if Early Spring'). The print depicts
the pagoda of Kofuku Temple and the Sarusawa Pond in Nara prefecture. The
brightly lit restaurants are seen on the opposite side of the pond behind the
still barren trees on the waterfront. TOMIKICHIRÔ was prolific and influential artist in the Kyoto area. After WWII he established the Matsukyû Publishing Company to distribute his Sosaku Hanga style works and those of his fellow artists. The company also provided training for carving and printing of younger artists. |
