The pine grove on Miho Peninsula in the foreground has an impressive over
Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji, and has been eulogised in ancient poems and
depicted in many paintings. Mt. Fuji has a dark covering of snow and is
partly obscured by blue-grayish mist. Behind Mt. Fuji the sun is setting
in an orange-color evening light. The many boats on the river probably
sailed to the port of Shimizu. Reference: Marije Jansen, "Hiroshige's journey in the 60-odd provinces"; Hotei Publishing, Amsterdam, 2004; no. 12, pp. 52-53. |
