"Throuhgh the open windows appears a view so perfect that it seems unreal:
the harvest moon rises serenely through the autumn sky, a flock of geese
return at the day's end, cargo ships lie quietly at anchor, small boats
set out for night fishing... The artist has eliminated any sign of the
distant Chiba coast to achieve a transcendant view of a moonlit night...
Details of the leftovers on the terrace suggest that this is in fact a
scene in one of the many brothels or inns for which Shinagawa was famous..."
