The lighthouse in the foreground, surrounded by pine trees, is part of the Sumiyoshi Temple grounds. The famous Shintô shrine, dedicated to the ocean gods, is considered to be one of the oldest shrines in Japan. An arch bridge leads to the tea houses at the beach. In the distance sail boats are crossing the sea, which, at the horizon, is bounded by the isle of Awaji in the bay of Ôsaka.
