This is a print from Eizan's earliest and best period. Designed at the age of around 20, it represents a fine example of his creative talent. The elegance of the composition is reminiscent of Utamaro, the leading artist in the field of bijin ga ('Pictures of beautiful women') of the time. The print is from a set of five depictions of women, each representing one of the five classical virtues. |
