Utagawa HIROSHIGE (1797 - 1858) The complete limited and numbered edition set of twenty-one tanzaku-sized woodblock prints made from the artist's original drawings: (see the introduction by J. HILLIER at lower right) "Calligraphy as taught by the Chancellor Sugawara" (01-09) (Sugawara denju tenerai kagami) "Sights of the Provinces" (10-12) (Shokoku meisho) "Views of the Provinces" (13-18) (without series title) Three kacho-e (19-21) Condition: Excellent impression and color; foxing to paper mounts only (not affecting the prints); paper crease marks at top corners of some of the prints where they are fixed to the mounts (not visible under the mounts). These minor flaws are found on all copies of the limited edition set, else the prints themselves and the chitsu wrapper are in fine condition (see illustrations below). |
